Why desludge?
In the process of crushing and grinding of minerals, some very small minerals will be produced. Minerals with a particle size of 5-10μm are called sludge. Too much sludge will seriously affect the subsequent sorting, affect the recovery rate of the beneficiation, increase the consumption of the beneficiation reagent, and increase the load of the sorting equipment. Therefore, it is necessary to join the desliming operation before mineral sorting. Cyclone desliming is suitable for processing sludge below 19μm. If the grade of the sludge released is close to the tailings, it can be directly discarded. If the grade is close to the original ore, it can be separated separately.
The principle of hydrocyclone desliming
The classification of hydrocyclones is based on the principle of centrifugal sedimentation, and the working principle of desliming is also similar. Due to the different particle size and density of fine sludge and coarse sand, the centrifugal force they receive is also different. When the ore-bearing slurry enters the feed pipe by pressure or gravity and enters along the tangential direction, the coarse sand will be thrown near the wall of the vessel because of the greater centrifugal force. As the outer spiral flow is discharged from the sand settling port at the bottom, it becomes an underflow product with more solid particles. Due to the low density of the sludge, the centrifugal force received is correspondingly small, the sedimentation speed is slow, and the stay in the spiral flow is longer, and eventually becomes an overflow product.
The advantages of hydrocyclone desliming
Optional equipment for desliming operations includes hydrocyclones, classifiers, thickeners, etc. After continuous practice in recent years, the use of cyclones for desliming is the most feasible and reasonable. Compared with other desliming equipment, hydrocyclone desliming has the following advantages.
1. High desliming efficiency
The hydrocyclone adopts an involute feeding method, which is beneficial to increase the centrifugal force of the material and improve the efficiency of desilting.
2. Optimize the beneficiation process
Too much sludge will affect the subsequent sorting process. Pre-desludge can optimize the beneficiation process and improve the recovery rate of beneficiation.
3. Protecting subsequent beneficiation equipment
The minerals are sorted after desliming, which has a certain protective effect on the subsequent mineral processing equipment and prolongs the service life of the equipment.
4. Saving the cost of beneficiation
Too much sludge will increase the amount of beneficiation reagents used in the separation process, and will also increase the operating time of the equipment. The use of hydrocyclones for desliming can save chemicals, water and electricity, and cost.
